A Fine Romance: Everything I hoped it would be

Paul's A Fine Romance course was everything I hoped it would be. As someone who did not study literature in college, I always struggled with Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur even though I love Arthurian Legend. The lectures were informative and entertaining, and each week I came away with something new from the text I tried so many times to conquer. I cannot recommend this class enough!

Gawain: The perfect summer learning experience!

I greatly enjoyed Dr Lauren's Gawain and the Green Knight course. I knew a bit about Arthur mythology but this opened my eyes to another story. Learning about the concurrent history and beliefs of the time helped me to fully understand and interpret this poem, and Dr Lauren is extremely knowledgeable on the subject. This was the perfect summer learning experience!

Zombies: Something for both the layman and the expert

Whew, where to start? I learned so many intricate and incredible facets about the function, fears, and fascination that we have with American zombies. We traced their inspirations, modern inception in Romero's films, and interpreted their criticisms on human society, capitalism, and so much more. As a creative writer I have loved every moment of watching films, reading books, and digging into graphic novels. I'm not generally into zombie stories, but Dr. Moffett lured me in with the promise of Haitian zombies and The Girl With All The Gifts. I'm so glad I took the Zombie course, because, as always, I learned a lot, and had great conversations about the movies and texts we covered. Highly recommend.

Robin Hood: A plum of a course

Robin Hood was a plum of a course taught by the brilliant Dr. Mikela Hunter covering the origins and transformation of the tale and its characters over the centuries to the present day, including a look into meter and rhyme, the forms of presentation (opera, ballad, novel, film, etc.) and the historical backdrop. The course went far beyond my expectations!

Beowulf: A Serious Academic Exposition

With Prof. Moffett as your guide, it is a serious academic exposition including aspects of language, culture, myths, sagas, history and the tools employed by the poet for maximum interest in the story and impact. I am very happy I took this course and plan to enroll in more of the courses he offers.
